Books
Two new books by Justin will be published this autumn.
‘Charge! - The Interesting Bits of Military History’ is a book about the smaller tragedies and triumphs that actually go to make up man’s favourite hobby of war - toilets that sink U-boats, unsporting attacks on Christmas day, armies that stop for tea, bombs on renegade balloons, drunk generals, blind kings, blind drunk generals, circular warships, and all the joy and misery that such things bring with them. And an interesting bit about the Pastry War.
‘Wonders of the Ancient World’ is a book of the greatest sights a world traveller might have seen in antiquity had they been able to journey across the globe and through the centuries. It describes 40 examples of the most extraordinary feats of human engineering and design from across the globe created between the dawn of human civilisation and the onset of the Dark Ages. Wonders of the Ancient World is a complete guide to the stories behind the world’s greatest ancient achievements, how they came to be built and what then befell them. It is a testament to both what we have gained and lost from the ancient world – a recreation of the greatest accomplishments of civilisations which today lie in ruins.
Film and Television
Visual Artefact is proud to have provided the historical advice for Mark Herman’s astonishing film version of John Boyne’s novel ‘The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas’, on general release from 12th September.
Set during World War II, this is a story seen through the innocent eyes of Bruno, the eight-year-old son of the commandant at a concentration camp, whose forbidden friendship with a Jewish boy on the other side of the camp fence has startling and unexpected consequences.
We are also delighted to be advising on the new series of the Showtime/ BBC hit drama ‘The Tudors’ which is currently filming in Ireland.
